The niece of a Fontanellato PoW, Anne is a retired lawyer and divides her time between homes in Oxford and the Marche. She researches PoW history and was guest speaker at the annual luncheon in 2014 and again in 2021 when she spoke on her particular interest – the experiences of the Other Ranks and how it differed from the officer stories.

Literary Contributions and Historical Initiatives

Anne was a co-translator of Antigone nella Valle del Tenna by Filippo Ieranò, published by the Trust as A People’s Courage.  After almost 14 years of discussions she was instrumental in bringing to fruition a commitment from the US National Archives (NARA) to digitise their collection of files from the Allied Screening Commission, an organisation set up immediately post-war to deal with compensation for Italians who had helped Allied escapers.

Commemorative Efforts

Together with her co-trustee, Nermina Delic, Anne organised the 4-day commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Italian Armistice and subsequent mass escape of 50,000 PoWs.  It was held in Servigliano, the town in which the Trust’s founder, Keith Killby, was held.

Cultural Exploration Through Writing

Anne has written a book for publication entitled “The Girl with a Peach”, the first in-depth look at the cultural implications of young Allied escapers sharing the medieval life of the Italian contadini from 1943 to 1945, and the life-long bonds that were formed as a result.
