Some of you will already know Dennis Hill and his website Camp 59 Survivors. From Bloomington, Indiana, Dennis has curated this site since his first post in January 2008, when he started with a transcription of an interview from 1987 with his father, Sergeant Armie Hill. Originally from Wisconsin, Armie was captured at Kasserine Pass in Tunisia on 23rd February 1943 and arrived, badly weakened, at PG59 Servigliano on 17th May. On his escape in September he made his way South, at one point being rescued from an angry mob by a local priest, and reunited with the Eighth Army at Termoli on 15th October.

A valued friend of the Trust, Dennis’s site started as a record of those connected to Camp 59 Servigliano, but over the past 17 years has grown to now encompass a wide collection of stories from both sides of the War. He has built up an exceptional archive of personal experiences, from all corners of the world, which continues to expand almost daily. He is especially pleased to have increasing contact with local Italian researchers and others keen to tell the stories of their forefathers.

We now intend to link, through Facebook and the Trust website, to some of Dennis’s posts as they become available, to ensure all of our supporters have an opportunity to see the ongoing work that Dennis is doing, along with many others, to uncover and maintain this unique historical event.
