On November 28th 2016 an article profiling the Monte San Martino Trust appeared in the pages of La Repubblica newspaper. Written by Umberto Gentiloni it described how, and why, the Trust was founded and quoted comments by Vanni Treves, one of the trustees. As the article says, during the war Vanni’s father was killed in the liberation of Florence and he and his mother went on the run to escape the Germans. In a reference to the Brexit vote “that has shaken the foundations of Europe’s architecture”, Gentiloni suggests that the links forged by the Trust with Italy through its bursaries for Italian students can act as a bridge.
